Brief was to provide a feasibility study to determine the possibility of extending the upstairs accommodation for the Client’s family. The building which is Grade II Listed and until recently times was run as a Public House.
Having been constructed in the 17th century, It had its challenges with slopping first floors and a charming and substantial inglenook chimney in the centre of the house which had to remain undisturbed.
Following several proposals, the client accepted that the amount of additional space that can be added to the first floor and still be within the confines of the Listed Buildings Criteria was not cost effective so project was shelved.
However, this example shows that sometimes it is better to complete a feasibility exercise to see if the initial idea is actually viability?
